Chlorine Dangers
Chlorine is a deadly toxin and it’s found in the water systems of virtually every community. If you don't have a whole house water filter along with a shower filter in every shower in your home. Why? When you're showering and your pores open from the hot water, cancer-causing chlorine, solvents and other chemicals can enter your body.
In its elemental form under standard conditions, chlorine is a powerful oxidant (meaning it creates huge amounts of free radicals which can attack our healthy cells). It's used in bleaching and disinfectants, as well as an essential reagent in the chemical industry.
As a common disinfectant, chlorine compounds are employed in swimming pools to keep them clean and sanitary. In the upper atmosphere, chlorine-containing molecules such as chlorofluorocarbons have been implicated in the destruction of the ozone layer.
At standard temperature and pressure, two chlorine atoms form the diatomic molecule Cl2. This is a pale yellow-green gas that has its distinctive strong smell, the smell of bleach.
Along with fluorine, bromine, iodine and astatine, chlorine is a member of the halogen series that forms the group 17 of the periodic table—the most reactive group of elements. It combines readily with nearly all elements. Chlorine, though very reactive, is not as extremely reactive as fluorine.
