Cinnamon and Weight Loss
With our busy schedules and life’s everyday demands it can seem impossible to spend the time and effort required for serious weight loss. The sort of pound-shedding actors do when preparing for a role means specialty diets and a personal trainer… and lots of sweat equity.
At home weight loss is slower, but safer, and it doesn’t have to be expensive.
Losing weight at home
We’d all like a magic pill. Something we can take once a day and never think about weight problems again. But even the best medications out there aren’t magic. People still get headaches and colds.
Home weight loss can be as simple as changing your diet and fooling your body a little bit.
We eat what’s available. It might be time to look in your fridge with the cold, emotionless eye of your inner weight loss expert. Fruits and vegetables – great. Processed sugar and snacky stuff? Not so great.
If it isn’t in there, you won’t be tempted to eat it. The more effort it takes to score the goodies (like having to take a trip out) the more likely we will eat what’s handy instead. Keep good stuff handy.
How about a way to kick-start home weight loss?
Cinnamon
Cinnamon comes from the bark of the cinnamon tree, an evergreen that grew originally in Sri Lanka. The inner bark produces the best quality cinnamon – it has a lighter hue. If you’ve seen those rolled up sheets of cinnamon for sale you can imagine how it was peeled from a tree trunk in a layer and dried.
The reason it is sold as ‘cinnamon sticks’ is because there are a few other forms that are less authentic (such as Cassia). Buy a reputable brand or buy the stick form and use a food mill to powder it.
Cinnamon can be added to other foods (applesauce or coffee) but to really lose weight at home, take the trouble to brew some cinnamon and honey tea. Here’s the recipe:
- One teaspoon honey (raw is preferred)
- One-half teaspoon powdered cinnamon (increase up to one teaspoon if desired)
- Blend both into one cup of boiling water (use pure water, not well or ‘hard’ water)
- Allow to cool and filter out any lumps of cinnamon remaining.
- Divide into two half-cup portions and drink one portion a half-hour before breakfast and a half-hour before dinner.Sound simple? It is.
Cinnamon’s use in at home weight loss has been known long enough to get the attention of the medical community. Studies show that, in the quantities above, cinnamon reduces the need for insulin and lowers total cholesterol. Not bad for tree bark.
The honey shouldn’t be overlooked either. Besides sweetening the tea to make it more palatable, honey contains some excellent antioxidants. Exactly why this combination allows you to lose weight at home with little change in your routine isn’t known. But it is certainly worth trying.
Give it three weeks before you decide if it helps you lose weight at home. Look especially for a loss of abdominal weight.
