Easy Dinner Party Idea
Are You Whipped by the Time your Dinner Guests Arrive?
For you, hosting this dinner party is an important event. You are casually working the room, making introductions and bringing like minds together in conversation. Trays of appetizers are conveniently placed in every corner, a little snack before the entrée is served.
Your husband has the duty of mixing drinks and making sure that everyone is comfortable with a glass in their hand. Yes, your dinner party is turning out to be a very pleasant experience for you and your guests. You are dead tired from cleaning the house all day, shopping and getting your hair done but it was well worth it.
You excuse yourself to go into the kitchen and finish the exquisite dinner that you are going to serve. Your tasty duck has been marinating in the refrigerator all night and is now roasting nicely in the oven. You have prepared the salad and dessert ahead of time.
The only thing left to do is to make the sauce. As you open the oven door to take a peek, the smoke begins to roll. Your beautiful perfect duck has run dry of liquid and is now scorched to the bottom of the pan.
So tired that it is difficult to think, you find yourself sitting down in a chair and crying. As your husband comes through the door, he immediately heads for the phone and calls the Chinese restaurant on the corner. Outside of being terribly embarrassed, your face is a mess and your spectacular meal is ruined.
Any time you plan a special event, things go wrong so just plan and expect it. What could have been done differently to avoid this scene? The very first thing is to make sure that you have had plenty of rest so your mind is sharp and clear. Clean your house a day in advance or have a cleaning service come in.
The prep work that was done with the appetizers, salad and dessert were a very good idea but when the duck was neglected because of being overly tired and stressed, everything fell apart. Perhaps you were trying a recipe that needed a bit of practice first.
Stick with the simple meals. Maybe you have been praised for your Southern Fried Chicken at picnics or a favorite Mexican casserole. As the saying goes, "Write what you know", the same applies for meals, "Cook what you know". Don't practice on a houseful of guests. Great food is better than strange tasting food.
Always have a backup plan. Just as the husband headed for the phone because he knew he had to get food, and fast, have a made ahead meal in the freezer that was prepared ahead of time for your family. The stress will be gone and your meal probably go as planned because of it.
