The primary health benefits of cranberries is its high concentration of antioxidants.

Research is ongoing on the cranberry’s effects on heart disease, yeast infections among other conditions. It is showing excellent promise as preventative against cancer, stroke and viral infections.

Strong evidence shows that drinking cranberry juice can block urinary infections by binding to bacteria so they can’t adhere to cell walls. While women often drink unsweetened cranberry juice to treat an infection, there’s no hard evidence that it works from a scientific perspective.

A compound discovered in cranberries, proanthocyanidine, even prevents plaque formation on teeth! And mouthwashes containing it are being developed to prevent periodontal disease.
