Why Do We Get Sick?
Why do we get sick? Where does health begin?
Unscientifically stated, health begins in the digestive tract. Few people know that large amounts of the body's energy are used in the digestive process.
If you've ever felt tired after a large meal, it's simply because your body is hoarding much of its energy to unravel the meat, starches, proteins and other compounds in your belly.
Natural foods process easily and quickly, while giving the digestive system the tools it needs to provide more energy, a more efficient metabolism and overall greater health.
When we get enough rest, learn how to manage stress effectively, and eat properly, our bodies are able to regenerate, detoxify and self-heal.
America's Health is Failing
- 2/3 of Americans are highly overweight
- More than 15 million Americans have diabetes
- Heart disease is still as prevalent as thirty years ago
- More than 100 million Americans have high cholesterol
- The war on Cancer has been largely ineffective
- Half of all Americans take prescription drugs
Improper diet and lifestyle lead to poor metabolic processes, the slowing of body function, clogged arteries and blocked digestive tracts.
Heart disease, obesity, arthritis, stroke and many other
problems we associate with modern life often occur because we do not
give our bodies the tools they need to heal themselves.

Why Do We Get Sick? Look At Your Plate!
Take a quick look at some of the negative elements that affect us and make us sick:
- When we eat junk food, or highly processed food, or foods grown with chemicals and pesticides -- right off that's a big black "X" against us. It means we're not getting the vitamins and nutrients we need for a healthy mind and body.
- Our bodies will create free radicals at a faster rate than we can deal with. This leaves us susceptible to illness and diseases.
- Are you taking one-a-day multivitamins or other supplements? Are they the kind that pass through your body without getting absorbed? Are all the vitamins in them natural? Chances are you're throwing your money down a big hole.
- The human body can only absorb 7-20% of pills or powder. And if they're made of synthetic nutrients, you're ingesting dead materials. So while you think you're doing the right thing for your health, you may not be answering the question: Why do we get sick?
“The system encourages people to get sick and then people get paid to treat them.” – Dr. Matthew Fink, Beth Israel Hospital, The New York Times, 2006
- Car fumes and industrial pollutants are highly toxic. Don't go jogging on busy roads and streets.
- Do you smoke? One cigarette will generate about one quadrillion free radicals. (Stay away from second-hand smoke, too.)
- Other elements that contribute to poor health: too much alcohol, road rage, over-cooked food (raw is best), too much sun and too much noise. Even exercise creates free radicals.
Environmental Reasons For Why We Get Sick
Altered genes and DNA from living in an industrialized society with all its outpourings of smog, noise, radiation and toxic sprays cannot be good for the long haul.
And on top of that we have more depression, anxiety, household chemicals, additives and foods grown in depleted soils.
So what's a person to do? Living far away from all the negative influences and eating fresh fruits and vegetables every day is not remotely possible for most of us.
The only way out is to be proactive about these problems. Small changes today can have a big impact on your tomorrows.
